What are Business Enterprise Centres?
BECs are locally based centres that have been established to assist clients with business planning and advice on marketing, budgeting, cash flow and networking. The Inner West Business Enterprise Centre was established to assist and develop successful businesses in the Inner West Region. Assistance provided by BECs is at no or low cost, is independent and confidential.
Why is there a need for BECs?
BECs assist in the creation, retention and development of small business opportunities, including import replacement and export markets, and promote local employment initiatives that lead to job creation and/or retention.
Who are the clients?
The majority of clients are people who wish to commence a new enterprise or existing small to medium sized businesses wishing to expand or improve their current products and service. |

Who are the supporters?
The BEC network is supported by state and local Governments, regional development boards, major public companies, local businesses and community organisations. BECs also have direct access to the programs and services of the Department of Trade & Economic Development (DTED), a State Government agency supporting small business development.
Who runs BECs?
Each BEC is an incorporated association directed by an independent board of management comprising local individuals and organisations from the private sector, as well as representatives from the public sector, all of whom are volunteers.
How can you become involved?
Join as a member of BEC and link with activities organised by that centre. Contribute financial or in-kind support to a BEC. Offer your expertise by way of assistance to a centre or as a mentor to a new local business. Seek to be a member of the Board of Management of a BEC. |
